EMAIL

Beware of this email fraud

Do you use Klaviyo for your emails campaigns? If you do, then keep your eyes peeled for suspicious activity, as some Klaviyo users are receiving phishing emails from scammers. This alert was shared by Gabriella Rapone on her page.

These emails appear to come from Klaviyo, asking the readers to click on a link for a failed campaign. The links open a page that looks similar to Klaviyo but… guess what? It’s not the official Klaviyo website.

So, what can you do?

  • Do not click on the links in the emails without confirming the sender.
  • Examine the URL of any web page asking you for contact info of Klaviyo.
  • Use unique login credentials you only use for Klaviyo.
  • Use a password manager

If you think you might have already been compromised, contact the Klaviyo support ASAP.

It’s not just Klaviyo users…

While we’re on the subject of emails, apparently our delivery was harmed by some spam filters yesterday.

Some WTAFF emails might have ended up in your Spam/Junkie folder as a result. So, if you didn’t receive our yesterday’s email, it’s probably in that folder.

It has many updates on FB, Messenger, Groups and lots more that you won’t want to miss out on, so we suggest you take a look.

Let us know where that email ended up!

PINTEREST

Pinterest making life easier for performance marketers

Pinterest is clearly focusing on attracting e-commerce businesses and audiences at the moment, and the most recent features the social network released have seen them take another step forward in this respect.
Even as performance marketers, we think these updates might be worth something to you.

What’s new?

  • Conversion optimization for Promoted Pins: Up until now, Pinterest advertisers were able to optimize Promoted Pins only for clicks. The latest update allows you to optimize them for conversions.

What does this mean? Less work for the advertisers. The Pinterest Ad platform will help performance marketers reach out to people that are more likely to convert, whether it’s about purchasing, signup, etc.

  • Conversion Goal for promoted videos: Pinterest is also extending the conversion goals for Promoted Videos. These will click into a landing page that houses the advertiser’s website, as well as a closeup of the video.

Why you should care? Well, this is another benefit for performance marketers. You’ll be able to find an audience that is more likely to convert, eliminating a lot of the manual work for campaign optimization.

Go2Mobi updates on its shutdown

A few months ago, we reported Go2Mobi was silently shutting down its operations. Now, we have official confirmation of our fears.

ConvertStar, the company that owns Go2Mobi DSP, has even filed for “the B word”. This happened on January 21, and here is the official report of procedures from the company.

This wasn’t exactly easy info to find, but we got hold of it for you!

The docs here even share the reasons behind this.

In January 2018, the company experienced a 56% drop in revenue compared to the previous year. The reasons being:

  • Exit from the US business.
  • Many long-term managed clients reduced their advertising budget for 2018.
  • Increased compliance demand by traffic partners and advertisers, impacting both the self-served and managed clients.

A look at the balance sheet shows that the company is reporting a $1M red hole.

They owe $2.46M with $1.4M in assets.

The biggest are:

  • MoPub, Inc. : $587k.
  • H.I.G. Capital Management, Inc. : $923K
  • List with claims less than $1K: $234K.

However, based on the preliminary estimates by the company, there will be a recovery for between $0.35 and $0.55 per dollar.

Another once great company suffers a sad decline.

INSTAGRAM

Strangers saw your Insta stories

Did you see any random people showing up in your stories feed? Or maybe you noticed some random people watching your stories?

Don’t worry, you’re not being stalked. It was just a bug which was acknowledged and (supposedly) fixed by Instagram.

Instagram believes only a small percentage of accounts were impacted. Although with more than 500M people using Stories everyday, even a small hiccup like this can have a widespread effect.

“We’re aware of an issue that caused a small number of people’s Instagram Stories trays to show accounts they don’t follow. If your account is private, your Stories were not seen by people who don’t follow you. This was caused by a bug that we have resolved.”

Well, considering all the recent hype around privacy concerns, this sounds like a pretty significant blunder on Insta’s part.

SEO

7.5k to 311k organic sessions per month

If you’re looking to take some eggs out of your marketing strategy basket and diversify, this post might be interesting for you!

It’s a case study to help you understand how you can grow some crazily consistent traffic to your website without investing a penny in advertising. You just need to put the effort in.

Tayyab Saqlain Zakki shared his SEO journey, detailing how he got organic traffic skyrocketing for one of his clients. These aren’t small numbers either – He took his client from 7.5k to 311k monthly organic sessions in less than 9 months.

Here’s the step by step process on how he achieved it.

It was a well designed website but lacked SEO optimization. Unsurprisingly, step 1 was to go out and conduct some keyword research.

Most of the relevant keywords were highly competitive and tough to rank for, so in the search of quick results Tayyab targeted low to medium difficulty keyworks and optimized the content around it. This proved to be some low hanging fruit which ranked quickly and drove some initial extra traffic. This was all done without any off-page SEO.

How did he do that?

Focus keywords AKA competitive keywords were used in the meta tags (Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords). The rest of the website content was optimized for a mixture of highly competitive and low competitive keywords.

Just by doing this On-page optimization, the organic traffic doubled from its initial figure.

After that, it was time for some link building. He started with Guest Posting and Article Submissions, and added in some social profile links to diversify the overall backlink profile.

The next step involved building second tier links from high authority sites. This was done to increase the authority of the previously built links.

What is 2nd Tier linking? It’s about building links to the webpages which are directly linking to your website. For example, say your website, abc.com, gets linked to from abc2.com. 2nd Tier linking would see you building links to abc2.com instead of to your own site. It basically increases the authority of your backlinks.

Link building continued and traffic kept growing until hitting a saturation point.

Enter On-page SEO. He started a blog on the website, published some articles using long tail keywords with good search volume but low competition. Stats improved again.

While the blog was a major factor for this and most keywords were ranking on 2nd-3rd pages, the website homepage ranking was still a concern.

He decided to add more content to the homepage by including the blog section on the homepage. That, for him, changed the game.

Here’s his strategy behind content addition:

The articles on the homepage had a ‘Read More’ button which opened the content in a popup instead of redirecting to the blog post! Search engines treated this as homepage content, and none of their competitors had that much content on their homepage. This made his website a competitive one in terms of On-page SEO.

By now, he was generating 4k-5k visits a day and ranking within top 5 spots.

Next step was to break into the top-ranking spots. Enter Featured Snippets.

He added Q&A section to the homepage with the questions being a mix of long and short tail keywords. Almost immediately, his website was inducted into the featured snippets (Position 0) for a very competitive keyword in more than 15 countries! In addition, it also started ranking for long tail keywords.

The final goal was to rank top for the main keyword, so he started working on improving the user experience..

To improve the user experience, he analyzed user behaviour on the website using a heatmap tool. He found a huge scope for improvement here, as users were facing many complications.

All these issues were fixed and just by doing so, he was finally able to make it to the first position for one of their main focus keywords. A very competitive one it was too.

If you have any questions or want to have a look at the website, Tayyab is open to that. You can find more on his post here.

MINDSET

Staying motivated in this crazy industry

We recently interviewed Paul Jey on the 3rd episode of our Stack Marketing Show. The majority of our readers loved the value and insights Paul shared about his journey from being a taxi driver to FB super affiliate.

If you watched the video, you know the kind of value it added to you as an entrepreneur, your mindset and to your overall business goals.

Though there are many people in the industry who can guide you on FB Ads, affiliate marketing or marketing in general, very few people know the importance of being content with your life, practicing gratitude and on having a positive influence on your near and dear ones.

There are still discussions going on about this interview in our Insiders Facebook group and among many other questions, Attila asked Paul about his secret to everlasting happiness (link only for those already in the group, see below how to join) and here’s what Paul’s humble response was.

  • Hang out with your family and friends as much as possible.
  • Don’t let your emotions get tied to your campaigns or else you’ll feel great when you are riding high but shit when things go sideways – Make sure you can completely detach from this.
  • Hire a business coach. Keep your ass in check both from a mental state but also accountability. The more you achieve the more fulfilled you feel.
  • Keep your family and friends in the loop. If you are having a bad week and things are going terribly, let them know. It helps when people around you know what’s up. Otherwise you end up hanging out with people and they can’t understand why you seem distracted or unhappy.
  • Practice gratitude. If you step back and think about how blessed you are to be in affiliate marketing industry, you appreciate things more. There are people out there who can’t even afford a laptop or wifi. Then there are people who complain that their $10k a day profit campaign stopped working. Thinking about this puts everything into perspective.
  • Focus on your own road. Comparing yourself to others makes you feel like shit. This is hard when you are surrounded by super successful people who fly on private jets weekly.

Think about this. New affiliates look at super affiliates and feel self conscious because they aren’t there, super affiliates are looking at guys doing $70M a year and feel bad. Guys making $70M a year look at how much Mark Zuckerberg makes and feel low.

It’s toxic and that behaviour goes all the way up the chain. Be okay with not being at the top, but make sure you drive as hard as you can on your road!

The real struggle of being an influencer

Remember that feeling when you have a campaign that’s been doing well for a while, and then one day you wake up and it’s stopped making you benjis?

What’s your reaction? Not a positive one, right?

Well, this is more or less what happened to the influencer Jessy Taylor after she discovered that her Instagram account had been unexpectedly deleted.

The end result is that she shared her emotional appeal on YouTube. We really hope you don’t react like that when your campaigns suddenly go down.. The influencer cried sentences like:

“I’m nothing without my following, I am nothing without my following.”

“I want to say to everybody that’s reporting me – think twice because you’re ruining my life, because I make all of my money online, all of it and I don’t want to lose that.”

“A 9-5 it’s not for me”

We understand you Jesse Taylor. After discovering that online juice, going back to a 9-5 is hard.

“I’m nothing without my ROI” or “I’m nothing without my killer angles” some marketers would say.

Don’t feel too sorry for Jesse though, because it looks like her account is back online again. Back to the internet hustle, uh?

Those tears probably helped her get her account back.
